Halmoni

Halmoni (할머니) is the Korean word for grandmother or a related woman of the same generation as one's grandmother or an old woman. Hakkun's halmoni was his grand aunt. She married his grandmother's brother.

Halmoni had three children: two daughters and a son. They were first cousins to Hakkun's mother. The oldest daughter was Hakkun's best friend.

Halmoni lived in a small house on the outskirts of Seoul.

For a time, when they had nowhere else to go, Soon E, Hakkun, and the girls lived with Hakkun's halmoni.

One day a small moving truck appeared. Hakkun, in his headstrong way, had decided it was time for them to leave.

Halmoni was infuriated.

"You son of a bitch!

You don't take care of Soon E and your daughters.

You leave!

Soon E and the girls can stay with me. I'll take care of them."

The boxer's knees shook.
